Boy am I in trouble on both sides of the Atlantic.

First I post about 1,000 words for you to translate, look at the clock and see it's nearly midnight in Rome. My wife, the feisty Italian gal, smacked me upside the head and said "what do you think you're doing?".

Then I have Aunt Mary translating (and she's crying she's so happy to be reading Italian) and she gets to the part about her being 92. Well, I was wrong, she's turning 90 and tells me that she's "young for her age". She also pointed out that she came to America at 7, not 11.

By mid-week there won't be an Italian on either side of the pond that's not mad at me.

:)

I'll get you some information on the hubless wheel and some good photos.

Note that the front and rear wheels appear quite different.

On a motorcycle the front and rear wheels "see" very different types of forces. An optimal design, for both wheels, will therefore always be different. When you see matching front and rear wheels you are looking at an engineering compromise to meet a marketing goal . . . aesthetics.

The folks at EBR were tasked with designing the best motorcycle they could. The idea of compromising on the lightest wheels ever put on a motorcycle in history, just to make them look the same, was unacceptable.

I'll be seeing Erik in the next few days and will get more detailed information so that I can explain the hubless design. The "big picture" is that the hub sees nearly no load with the ZTL2 braking system and does not, therefore, need to have all the structure, and mass, of a conventional system that has tremendous braking forces passing from the tire to the wheel to the spokes to the hub to the rotor to the caliper. The ZTL takes the spokes and hub out of that equation.

I'll get more detailed information for you. I'll also get some good fotos of the 1190RS race bike (which is IDENTICAL to the street bike) at Mid-Ohio this next weekend. If you would like I can try to post live updates here from the track.

Ciao,
Court

If I am reading that right it is something like . . . "It's not the Buell I would want but I am glad to see Erik build it and to see it get such good reviews. It is not built needlessly".

That is pretty much the sentiment from around the world. Erik Buell is not getting in the business to build $40,000 USD motorcycles.

But . . . to race . . he must (as required by the rules of the AMA) build 100 bikes. In addition, he may ONLY race EXACTLY what he builds. So, as you can see, he must build the best motorcycle he can. The AMA also imposes the $40,000 USD price.

I do not think that in the long term it is Erik's intention to make exclusive and expensive motorcycles. He, as those of you who have met him know, is a passionate motorcycle rider who wants to build bikes that people will ride. He slogan, back in the early 90's was "Just go ride the motorcycle".

But for Erik Buell Racing to be know well, and to sell other motorcycles, they must race to prove their ideas and product.

As has been said . . this is not the Buell for many people. For Court? . . . I want a Buell that does what my 2008 XB12X Ulysses does. I can get on and ride for hours . . . the smile just gets bigger and bigger. I do not need 200HP.

But . . I also know that much of that technology that we see in the 1190RS will find it's way to other Buells in the NEAR ( :D ) future.

So . . in the end . . we are, once again, the same. . . . The Italians, the Americans, the Brazilian, the Brits, the Aussies, the Japanese and the Dutch. We don't want to BUY a $40,000 USD motorcycle but we are happy to see one of our friends build one and show the world what he and The Elves can do.

But . . .we all want him to hurry and build something for us . . so we may all "Go Ride The Motorcycle".

Court

MAh... Per me EBR è più Buell di HD.... :supergreen:

Ciao Mauro!
Forse tireranno fuori qualcosa dal cilindro? O dai Cilindri?
Mah...
